Jesus Said

I was talking to my friend about Christianity

She said that religion can be good

And doesn’t always mean that war is justified

In the name of God

The conversation confused me

Even though I had plenty of ready-made retorts

To refute the proposition that religion can be good

But I saved my best argument

Last night in a dream Jesus came to me

And he said that it was smarter

To not believe in God until

Somebody could fix all the idolaters and others

Jesus said it was more important

To keep good morals

Rather than listen to silly fables

Long after those fables had been manipulated for ill

Jesus said loyalty to good

Is more important than loyalty to God

Better to start anew and be happier

Than prove Cro-Magnon loyalty to Cro-Magnon conceptualizations of spirituality
