The Humbling
We all seek it like nothing else
We all want to be our own dammed teachers
Disregarding the experiences
Of the other
We cannot even imagine the other
Save for when we are very smart
And calculating
Which robs us of spirit
And artificial self-worth
Predicated on merely
Not being
The other
When we actually become the other
Life becomes an untenable proposition
In the routinely dull
The mysteriously banal
Awe-inspiring only because
We are so fucked up on drink
Tryin’ to stave off the
Experiences of the other
To avoid the modesty we would then feel
When we compare ourselves to
The other
And experience
The Humbling
