Walking Along a Road

There I was on Pico

Walking along the road

I noticed that nobody was looking at me

I was not accustomed to this

It humbled me

I was in their world

I was among them

But not with them

I had not proven myself yet

And worse still

I didn’t know what I had to do

These people were very different from me

They all had rich lives

Or maybe not

But I wanted to think so

Maybe my life was better than any of theirs

Or maybe not

Exposure to the sun

Made me very tired that day

I strolled along Pico

All the way to East LA

Having started at my friend’s place in Hollywood

Some hours earlier
